GLOBAL EXPERIENCE
RAJASTHAN, INDIA
My research focused on 21st century educated Rajasthani women’s aspirations, challenges and development goals. The goal of the research was to explore women’s labor and literacy options in Rajasthan, India. Compared to more developed states in India, Rajasthan deals with disproportionate sex ratios, high child feticide and child marriage rates as well as low literacy rates. In spite of such complexities, the status of educated middle class women from this state was represented in the study.
PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI
My international work has also transpired into a proposal I assisted with that allowed Spelman College and Morehouse College students travel to Haiti to improve the maintenance of an orphanage, purchase footwear for local children and create a recreational site for community members and neighboring communities to host tournaments and social events.
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The Insight Dubai Conference allows collegiate level women to engage in complex dialogues about women’s concerns on the global level. At the conference I offered my understanding of the “American way” while simultaneously learning from other cultures. I was most interested in learning from the young women at the Dubai Women’s College. As a student who attends an all women’s college, the bond I gained working with women leaders often intrigue me. No doubt, I gained a broader network of women who I believe have the intellect of leaders in the 21st century.
